The Watchmen

It's coming.

Fanboys all over the world are drooling and dreaming, knowing that their favorite graphic novel is going to be a major motion picture. Transitioning from an underground movement to the mainstream is a big deal, of course...and - if recent superhero movies are any indication - this could be a movie for everyone.

The Watchmen will be a movie in 2009

Don't know about The Watchmen? Here's more:

Scientology: Bad People

Bad People. That's how a 61 year-old woman described her neighbors, the Los Angeles Scientologists. In an attempt to avoid being picketed, they got permits to close the sidewalks around their offices. This lady, without knowing it, demonstrates clearly how militant some Scientologists can be.

The Alternative to a Free Market

This is an election year in America. In a two-party system, both sides - conservative and liberal - want to win. Both sides generally pander to those in the middle to make sure they get enough votes to get or maintain control.

2008 won't be any different in that respect. There will be one new twist, however...and some will stare in disbelief with their mouths hanging open. The rest will think that it's 'about time'. What's the twist?

Socialism rears its ugly head in 2008

This fall, Americans will hear from liberals 'experts' that a free market economy is no longer working, and no longer best, for America. They'll declare that it's unfair. That's right: bigger government, more controls...all in the name of "fairness". Who could argue with fairness? Why, it's simply un-American and immoral to oppose fairness. Isn't it?

Here's the plain and simple truth: the alternative to a free market is a forced market. History has shown us again and again, in our lifetimes, that a coerced market is a failure waiting to happen.

The remedy for a faulty free market isn't more government intervention, it's less. Yes, we need to watch for abuse and theft and people doing bad things...but we need fewer government restrictions than we have today.

Need proof? Look at gas prices.

Coincidence? I Think Not.

Bible skeptics sometimes like to point out the fact that the fulfillment of a prophecy always comes after the prophecy itself, giving 'true believers' plenty of opportunity to make the prophecies come true.

There are a couple of problems with this kind of reasoning: first, fulfillment of many Old Testament prophecies would be impossible to fake. Second, not everything is as it seems. As one can see from the story of The Wreck of the Titan, it's simply too easy to point fingers and make assumptions.

The Titanic

What happened? Well, if you're too lazy to click the link and find out, here are the basics: in 1898, Morgan Robertson wrote a novella about an ocean liner, Titan, which sinks in the North Atlantic after striking an iceberg. The sinking of the Titan is obviously similar to the sinking of the Titanic which sank fourteen years later.

Other similarities:
  • Both were considered unsinkable or indestructible
  • Both had three propellers and two masts
  • Both launched In April
  • Both carried lifeboats for only half of their passengers
  • Both struck an iceberg

Coincidence? Sure. Nobody thinks that the crew of the Titanic collaborated to make real a recent fiction. Nobody's claiming that the writer of the story of the Titan was being prophetic, either. The point is that things are not always as they appear.

There are hundreds of prophecies about Jesus, for example. The chances that they would be fulfilled by one person are beyond astonomical...so skeptics take the path of least resistance. They claim that true prophecy doesn't exist and that Jesus and His followers conspired to make Him only appear to be the Messiah.

Now who's writing fiction?

A New Day for Apologetics

Some have erroneously asserted that God is dead. Many who believe that have also lumped apologetics and theology into the same category. They might be surprised that there's a resurgence of both in the Western world. Read all about it in this Christianity Today article.

Not at all coincidentally, I named my website GodWords because I consider good theology and strong apologetics are essential to the success of the church. Well, that - and and fact that theology.com was taken.

I love Theology and Apologetics!

Comments Temporarily Abled

Okay...I've enabled the comments again. Let's see if the storm is over. It's been 30 minutes so far, and no spam. Maybe they've gone away to bother someone else.

Maybe.

If the spam storm comes back, I'll have to take drastic measures.
