99 Balloons

Sat, Jan 30 2010 - 13:19 PM

The year is 2010. It's been 37 years since Roe v. Wade, and some people are still confused by the abortion debate. On one hand, pro-abortion activists justify killing babies on the following grounds: A fetus is not a person, so it doesn't have a right to live. A baby is disposable if it inconveniences the mother. Being born "imperfect" is worse than not being born at all. On the other hand, pro-life activists celebrate each tiny life, even if it's inconvenient...even if it's scary, exp...

Movie Trailer: Blood Money

Tue, Sep 8 2009 - 12:14 PM

Regular GodWords readers know that I'm squarely against abortion. I consider most abortions to be the senseless killing of an innocent human being. This year, I've started saying that America is in the middle of a shift on the abortion debate. One reason for the shift is that more people are willing to speak out about the real issues behind abortion: money, power, and social engineering. I have no idea what's in this movie, beyond the trailer. If it's any good at all, it should shake men a...

Can I Live by Nick Cannon

Sat, Aug 22 2009 - 00:14 AM

Most of you probably don't know who Nick Cannon is. That's okay...he hasn't made a huge splash yet. He put out one rap album, hosted some Nickelodeon shows, did some cartoon voice-overs, did some stand-up comedy. He's currently the host of America's Got Talent...but his big claim to fame is that he's Mr. Mariah Carey. Yeah, that's right. He married Mariah. Anyway, I ran across this video tonight and it made me cry. We seldom hear a strong pro-life message from entertainers these days, and just...

Abortion is a Blessing?

Thu, Apr 23 2009 - 10:28 AM

Reasonable people - on both sides of the abortion issue - believe that the number of abortions needs to be reduced. Whether by adoption, education, or abstinence, almost everyone thinks that abortion is a negative. Unfortunately, there are also a bunch of unreasonable people out there who think otherwise. The most radical among us (including those who understand the real reason for the creation of Planned Parenthood) believe that abortion is a good thing. Yes, some of them consider pregn...

How Should Christians Think about Abortion?

Tue, Nov 11 2008 - 14:58 PM

Because of the recent American elections, I've had a number of conversations about issues like abortion, and have come to realize that there's a lot of 'fuzzy thinking' out there. This is one of my replies from a recent 'fuzzy' discussion: When it comes to abortion, the issue is often divided into two groups: arguments about how to avoid abortion, and arguments about what to do about unwanted pregnancy. That sometimes causes people to argue badly, because they're not really communicating about ...

Should Conservatives be 'One-Issue' Voters?

Mon, Oct 27 2008 - 17:08 PM

Because of the political timing and climate in America, I've had a number of recent conversations about conservatives being "one-issue voters". I'd like to reiterate a bit, if you don't mind...and to give you a little food for thought. Christians probably shouldn't be one-issue voters...but let's not pretend that capital punishment or political wars are somehow the same as abortion. Forget about matters of guilt or innocence and just look objectively at the numbers: From 1976 to 2004 ther...

Are Conservatives 'One-Issue' Voters?

Sat, Oct 18 2008 - 15:39 PM

It's hard to watch political news coverage and find answers. All we get are more questions, or - at best - a quick confirmation of our own perspectives. The reason might be that nobody dwells on any one topic for long. I'd like to address a commonly-held idea that I find problematic: the rejection of abortion as a litmus test. Conservatives are sometimes "one-issue" people. I do think it's important to avoid closing one eye to reality, but all issues are NOT the same. Yes, we should be concerne...

Gianna Jessen on Hannity and Colmes

Fri, Sep 26 2008 - 11:13 AM

Gianna Jessen was just a baby when her mother decided to kill her. Because she weighed only two pounds, she was unable to defend herself from her much-larger mother. Her muscles hadn't developed to the point where she could run away from her attacker. She almost died.Shocking? Maybe to some people. To others, this is an unnecessarily graphic and overly-emotional description of the very common act of abortion.Because the saline solution intended to kill Gianna didn't do the job, she was born aliv...

Eugenics: Not Just for Nazis Anymore

Sat, Aug 30 2008 - 15:53 PM

Much is being made of the fact that Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin has a son with Down's Syndrome. Why is it a big deal? Simple: most women in the developed world undergo testing to see if their baby will have Down's Syndrome, and an estimated 90% of all babies so diagnosed are aborted. Sarah Palin and her husband Todd - despite knowing that their son would be born with Down's - decided to raise their child instead of killing it.I'm pleased to see a politician who shares my dis...
